Role Summary

Our programmes are designed specifically for the communities we serve, with their input and catered to their needs. Our current focus is the rural Orang Asli and Orang Asal communities, and urban low income youth. We also work on enabling their environment - for which we engage with teachers, lecturers, corporate and government employees.
Student Recruitment Officer – Community Outreach
As a Student Recruitment Officer, you are responsible for recruiting youth aged 18 to 27 from B40 and Orang Asli backgrounds into SOLS Foundation programmes, for example the Solar Academy workforce development programme.
This is a field-based, people-facing and target-driven role. You will spend most of your time on the ground in communities, schools, PPRs and villages, speaking directly with youth, parents, village leaders and community partners.
You are expected to actively source candidates, explain the programme clearly, handle doubts and objections, follow up persistently, and convert interested youth and other groups into enrolled participants. Frequent travel to rural areas is part of the role.
In this role you will:
- Student Recruitment
Recruit participants per intake for SOLS programmes, with recruitment targets set per intake.
- Community Outreach:
Conduct outreach at schools, PPRs, Orang Asli villages, NGOs, colleges and youth groups.
- Programme Briefings:
Speak directly to youth and families about career outcomes, commitment required, discipline, allowances and job placement.
- Follow-Ups & Conversion:
Handle objections related to time, money, confidence and fear of failure. Follow up consistently to convert interested youth into enrolled students.
- Tracking & Reporting:
Track leads, follow-ups, conversions and drop-offs. Maintain simple recruitment trackers and report weekly on progress and issues.
- Community Access & Representation:
Build trust with Tok Batin, parents and community gatekeepers. Represent SOLS Foundation and the Solar Academy clearly and honestly, without overpromising.
- Other Duties:
Other tasks requested from your supervisor.
Other relevant duties assigned by your reporting manager / The Management from time to time.
To be shortlisted for this position, you will need to have:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in community outreach, student recruitment, sales, field work or grassroots engagement.
- Having existing access to the communities we serve is a strong advantage.
- Ability to activate existing networks with Orang Asli communities, low socioeconomic status communities, youth leaders, NGOs, religious groups and local champions.
- Ability to build trust quickly with Tok Batin, parents and community gatekeepers.
- Strong persuasion and communication skills, with the ability to explain programmes clearly in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
- Comfortable approaching strangers, cold outreach, initiating conversations and handling rejection positively.
- Able to manage follow-ups persistently and work towards targets.
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace.
- This role involves frequent travel to rural and semi-rural areas, including Orang Asli villages. Conditions may include long drives, limited facilities, heat, rain and irregular hours depending on community availability.
