Solar Wiring Intern
Role Summary
The Solar Wiring Intern learns solar PV wiring on real installations, working alongside a competent wireman and an installation team. The intern helps with AC and DC wiring, testing and site documentation, and builds the practical skills needed for a career as a solar wireman or installer.
Social Empresa delivers safe, high-quality, affordable solar installations while creating well-paying jobs for Orang Asli and youth from low-income households. As it grows to 20 installation teams, it needs more skilled wiremen — this internship is one of the ways it builds them.
In this role you will:
1. Wiring Assistance
- Help route, secure and label AC and DC cables, conduit and trunking, following the SLD and the Social Empresa wiring SOP.
- Prepare cables, connectors and terminations under the wireman's direction.
2. Testing & Documentation
- Assist the wireman with pre-switch-on tests (polarity, string voltage, insulation resistance, earthing).
- Take wiring, labelling and test photos for every job and submit them the same day.
3. Safety & Site Care
- Follow isolation, PPE and work-at-height rules on every job.
- Keep the site, tools and testers tidy and in good order, and leave the customer's home clean.
4. Learning & Development
- Complete the wiring SOP training and join daily briefings and toolbox talks.
- Keep a simple weekly skills log signed by the wireman or Wiring Coordinator.
To be shortlisted for this position, you will need to have:
Essential
- Currently enrolled in (or recently completed) an SKM, certificate or diploma in Electrical, Electrical Installation or a related trade — or a Solar Academy trainee.
- Basic understanding of electrical safety and wiring.
- Comfortable with physical, outdoor work and working at height.
- Able to communicate in Bahasa Malaysia; willing to learn and follow instructions carefully.
Preferred
- Working towards an Energy Commission wireman competency (e.g. PW2/PW4).
- Any prior solar or electrical installation exposure.
- Valid driving licence.
